Teams of 4 with options to swap riders in and out over the series, this will be a great lead up to the second half of the racing calendar and the ToMR. Options for Silver participation category to complete the TTT.

Nannup Hill Climb
Cold but not freezing conditions for the Nannup Hill Climb today with little wind and overcast skies. It was a good turnout with 25 riders including a number of squirrels plus a frozen Vern who rode through the night but didn’t quite make start time.

Isabella enjoyed Nannup a lot more than Pile Rd and sprinted ahead of her start group including Lou, Felicity, Barry, Craig and Jessica in the final kilometre to record an excellent 14.38. Good to see Ashley fresh from tackling the mountains of Europe and she put in a great effort to record 14.30 while Sanid who is in training mode for ToMR rode strongly shaking off the I’m not a hill climber tag with a time of 12.58.

Sandi crossed the line with Tony who was quickest of the group of squirrels including Trevor, Owen and Alex.
The Masters team were well represented and all recorded good times with Chris Howard quickest in 11.06 ahead of Ian Kugler in 11.42.

Ryan Krikke showed form that saw the ToMR team scouts start working on him and can be well pleased with 11.20 just ahead of Busselton’s token representative Phil Magee who recorded 11.29 and Vikram in 11.31.

Josh Commons rode strongly but Kim once again showed age is no barrier to be just one second behind him in 10.46.
The early money was on Iain to be the quickest of the Ferrys up the hill after he was seen warming up on the rollers but Lowen is going from strength to strength and was quickest on the day with a great time of 9.56 compared to Iain’s 10.12.

Many thanks to Suzanne for doing registration and starting and Robbie for doing a great job setting course up as always.

After the hill climb most were up for the ride to Bridgetown with Jo splitting the bunch into a faster group and a slower group. Some were soon regretting going with the faster group including Ashley and Sandi but no doubt will benefit from the training. Unfortunately Paul Falloon dropped back from the group and then took a wrong turn heading across on the ToMR course to Greenbushes.

Meanwhile further back in the slower group, Owen was convincing fellow squirrels that turning toward Greenbushes was a good idea and ticking the Kandalee climb off the bucket list was not to be missed.

The girls were not as convinced and continued toward Bridgetown dropping Jess off a few km out of town before turning and heading back to Nannup. On the way back they picked up Big Squirrel Craig who was also doubting Owen’s logic and had decided to head back. This group were first back to Nannup ahead of Owen’s group who were unlucky to be caught by a rain shower on the way back, but pleased with their efforts and photo evidence of their Kandalee conquest.

The rest of the bunch returned in dribs and drabs with Chris, Andrew, Paul and Kim eventually turning up after Paul had completed his detour via Greenbushes.

Word amongst the bunch was that you only needed to be as fast as the slowest squirrel to avoid being picked off by the Nannup Tiger. There were actually no Tiger sightings however with the tactic of spreading the group over a range of courses obviously working to keep the felines off the scent.

Apart from being a bit cold, perfect riding conditions today and great to see good numbers out across the groups. Reminder we are heading to Nannup tomorrow. should be good weather again and picturesque scenery. Timed section up first hill and then a social long ride to Bridgetown. Excellent conditions for riding this morning, nice and crisp (2 degrees through Australind). A smooth group 3 ride with Pistol Pete leading the way and showing very good form throughout. Ian Jansen also put some strong turns in while Sandi goes from strength to strength with a solid effort in the hills.
