The continuing success of the club’s Saturday group rides is due to a number of factors, including a great committment by members in abiding by the SWCC ride etiquette policy, which outlines how to ride in a group situation. But it is also the tremendous efforts by the club’s ride leaders who strive to ensure that our rides are held in a safe and enjoyable manner. These efforts are much appreciated by the members of our club who also have a variety of other rides to choose from throughout the week.

In recognition of the ride leaders’ efforts, awards were given to the following ride leaders at the end of year function.

Group 1  Kim Overington – always willing to put his hand up to lead rides, even when numbers are very low.

Group 2  Stephen Roberts-  a very enthusiatic and vocal leader who often encourages riders to give their best efforts during rides.

Group 3  Mike Ansell – always willing to put his hand up for ride leader duties and fulfils his role diligently.

Group 4 Craige Pettit – has helped out regularly throughout the year and encourages all riders. Craige has also participated in annual charity rides, which raises funds for the prevention of youth suicide.

In addition, the following riders were recognised for their efforts throughout the year.

Leon Olde- most improved rider in group 1, making  a quick and very successful transition from group 2, culminating in excellent results at the Tour of Margaret River. Leon also completed a long charity ride in the second half of the year, raising funds for autism. Well done Leon!

Wayne Steer-Wayne stepped up from group 3  during the year and has been riding strongly in group 2. The former Ironman triathlete quickly adapted to group riding and is a regular on the Saturday rides.

Robbie Commons- a great overall contributor throughout the year, renowned for his tireless efforts in encouraging juniors as well as other riders whenever needed.

Suzanne Light  – Suzanne has made very good progress over the last 12 months, showing improvements on all rides. Continues to put in a huge effort in running club events.

Steve Camarri-  a great club person, always willing to drop back and help other riders whenever needed.

Many thanks to the above the riders and everyone else who has helped to make 2015 a most successful year of riding.
