South West Wheeled Sports Facility Presentation 19th October – Bryce Lanigan

SWCC's Bryce Lanigan has developed a comprehensive project which incorporates the development of a local facility which will have a direct benefit to our club. Recently Bryce was a guest speaker at TEDx Bunbury  (TED is a non profit organisation devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks) and his talk was very well received. On Sunday 19th October at 3pm in at the Bunbury High School library/conference room, Bryce  will be presenting his concept plan for his  South West Wheeled Sports Facility, which will benefit not only the SWCC but other wheeled sports such as in-line speed skating and incorporate a mountain bike skills playground. This concept has been shared with local shires and councils. Bryce is ready to share this concept plan with  the…

Weather doesn’t deter riders in Cristal Tour of Dardanup

Forecasts of strong winds and heavy rain did not deter around 200 cyclists who converged on Dardanup last Sunday to battle for the coveted golden gnome. Fresh from his recent victory in the Collie Donnybrook young Nicholas Lawler once again put in a great ride getting away in a small break in the A grade road race. Unfortunately he was just pipped on the line in a tight sprint by the experienced Doug Stewart from Perth ‘s Master Blasters. Team Crank’n’Cycles have dominated the Cristal Titanium Team Series and demonstrated why on Sunday when they recorded the fastest time in the second stage of the tour, the team time trial. The time bonus from the road race was enough of an advantage however for Stewart to claim the overall win…

Arimia Big Movers in Round 2 of Cristal Series

Team Arimia were without their number one rider in LJ Sleegers but obviously recruited well in Dan ‘the man’ Jeffereys. The move of James Stephenson up into B grade worked to the team’s advantage as he took a strong second place behind Michael Hosken from Avanti Uberquads while Tom Collins sprinted to victory from a small breakaway group in C grade taking maximum points there. These performances were followed up with a very strong team time trial where they recorded the 3rd fastest time gaining enough points to end the day equal second with the SWCC Race team and in with a good shot at the Salice sunglasses. There was a lot of positive feedback about the Mowen road course although once again with rolling big dippers it was well…

Crank’n’Cycles Dominate Cristal Team Series in Collie

It was close to perfect conditions for race one of the Cristal Titanium Series in Collie with little breeze and clear sunny skies. The McAlinden Course always makes for a good event with enough of a hill at around the 10km mark to stretch the field out. The rolling hills on the rest of the course suit the strong rouleurs and those able to get into a good rhythm. Few cars and a backdrop of green paddocks and contented cows make it a great road racing and team time trial circuit and many thanks to the Collie Club, particularly Darren Coram, Jamie Moloney and Melissa Mumme. With a number of A graders and strong time triallists in the Crank’n’Cycles team led by Vaughan Berge, it was always going to be…

Local rider to compete on national cycling stage.

Erin Kinnealy, a member of the Nicheliving HALL NRS Team, is pinching herself as a newcomer to the sport as she prepares for the National Road Series' King Valley tour in Victoria in August. The 30-year-old will be hoping for a successful result with team mates Melissa Robinson, Katie Joyce, Annie Bramley and Liz Leydon. Her presence is something of a surprise given that she has only been cycling for ten months with a handful of road races under her belt. Kinnealy, from Hamilton in South West Victoria, made the move to Busselton 2 years ago to get a start in the resource sector. "I started cycling because Iluka Resources had nominated a team for the Conquer Cancer Fundraiser ride in October last year" she says, "I strolled into a…

Nicholas and Erin King and Queen of Mountain

There were picture perfect conditions for Sunday’s South West Cycle Club Pile Road Hill Climb Championships and although there were complaints of a slight head/crosswind in the first section of the course a comparison from one year to the next shows most can be happy with an improvement in times posted. One of the biggest improvers was Nicholas Lawler who claimed the King of the Mountain with a great ride and it has been a real pleasure to watch Nicholas progress with his cycling over the last couple of years always showing an exemplary attitude and a great representative of the South West Cycle Club. Erin Kinneally from Busselton was the fastest female competitor and a worthy winner of the Queen of the Mountain. Partner Joel Bertram was pleased to…
