Criterium 2 Stratham 5th December

Friday night criterium racing came to Stratham for the first time this season, with the course providing something different being a longer circuit with a sweeping left hand bend around the back of the course and slight rise in the finishing straight. Although the weather looked ominous with dark clouds looming, the rain held off, though the wind refused to do the same. There was a small field in C Grade which had 20 mins and 2 laps to cover. Junior Cadel Adams was a clear winner, ahead of Claes and Steve who had a sprint to the line for the minor placings. Well done to Liesl for hanging in there all the way, it's always hard riding solo for much of any event. The B Grade field had the…

Windy Conditions for Round 2 of TT Series

Times were considerably slower across the board as riders battled the strong south westerly breeze that sprung up prior to the second event in the Marg Stoffers midweek TT series. Front marker Liesl Swart was certainly lamenting the wind as she came across the line but will no doubt benefit from the strong hit out.  It was  difficult to break the 30 minute mark with Steve Camarri pleased to get just under 30 minutes and Garry Hastie just pleased to get around the 2 laps in one piece this week.  Mark Thomas was riding within himself under coaches’ instructions and felt ‘he had plenty in reserve’ while Jessica Lawler showed the benefit of plenty of time on the front in recent criteriums to record a respectable Good to see Craige…

Hastie Comes of Age

Ben Hastie showed he has come of age this season when he broke away early in the B grade criterium at Picton and despite very windy conditions held the field off and recorded a solo victory with daylight second. Good to see Kim Overington back out riding after a recent accident that almost saw him lose his right eye.  As always Kim put in regular surges breaking away with Ben early on before dropping back to the main bunch.  Jessica Lawler put in some strong efforts which quickly had club treasurer Mark Thomas in difficulty.  Unfortunately Claes and Graham Clarke also found the windy conditions challenging.  Russell Horlin, Jason Linaker and Adrian Wood all lapped strongly but failed to put any dent into Hastie’s lead. In the final lap Horlin…

Fast Times at Dardanup

It was great conditions for the first TT at Dardanup resulting in some excellent performances across the board. None better than Busselton’s Erin Kinnealy who posted one of the fastest female times ever recorded with an amazing , chicking the majority of the field in the process. There were good numbers out including a few having their first attempt at time trialling or their first attempt for a while.  This included the enthusiastic local Tim Giumelli who put in a strong ride without TT bars recording   Fellow group 3 riders Steve Camarri and Mark Thomas were also both just under the 29 minute mark and showing good improvement. Ian Kugler made the trip over from Boyup Brook and once again rode strongly recording without TT bars.  Meanwhile out in…

McDonald Crowned 2014 Club Road Champion

Peter McDonald rode away from the A grade field in today’s SWCC club championships Lowden Return race and continued on to take a very convincing solo victory showing good form leading up to the Tour of Margaret River.  Breaking away early on with Nicholas Lawler, McDonald was too strong for the younger rider who has been busy with exams lately and when Lawler dropped back to the main bunch McDonald was unperturbed and confidently continued his solo time trial.  He crossed the line a couple of minutes ahead of the main bunch that was headed home by Connor Lambert from 225 club with Lawler crossing the line as second SW rider home ahead of the ever improving Bryce Lanigan.  Marten Howes who has been putting in the long miles in…
