Thumbs up for RCR Circuit

It was a thumbs up from riders testing out the first club criterium on the closed road RCR circuit that Robbie had organised.  With no worries about cars and the buildings and plant sheltering the riders slightly from the blustery South Wester the hot mix circuit was fast and the corners friendly enough that bunches could stay together. First away were A grade with a field of nine riders up for the challenge of sticking with the likes of Bryce, Connor and Nicholas.  Some early testing accelerations were quickly reeled in before Marten, fresh from a block of racing in Queensland decided to try a move.  He quickly established a half lap break and despite strong efforts by Alistair Patterson amongst others this gap remained until around the 20 minute…

Personal Bests All Round

It is almost guaranteed to become cold and wet when we start running our Marg Stoffers midweek TT’s and the first event at Dardanup for the 2015-16 season was no exception.  Fortunately there were only a few spots of rain and the gusty South Westerly died away over the course of the event making conditions near perfect as the night wore on. As a result there were almost personal bests all round with improvements ranging from a few seconds by Nicholas who was still struggling with his gears through to gains of two minutes or more by many of our juniors who once again had the chaperones under significant pressure. First away were Lowan and Ian Ferry with Lowan completing his first ever TT in a great time of  …

2015 SWCC Road Champs

With the date for the club champs pushed back a bit by the Cristal Series and ToMR, it was always likely to be fairly warm conditions but fortunately not as hot as Saturday with some breeze around to cool it down and mostly keep the flies at bay. First group on the road were those who did not wish to race, but just complete a lap of the valley and with around 14 nominating for the participation event, it was always going to be the biggest bunch.  Good to see Bruce come down from Collie for a ride and good representation from the Loose Wheels with Felicity, Lucinda and Sandi all riding.  We haven’t seen Geoff DeChaneet for a while and great to see him out again.  Unfortunately for Laurie…

South West Sports Centre Criterium

Having never trialled the course, we weren’t quite sure what we were in for doing a crit on the South West Sport Centre course but with the opportunity to race on closed roads and with positive feedback from Marten Howes who previously did a triathlon on the course, we decided to give it a go. The circuit was long and somewhat more technical than our traditional club criteriums but a good opportunity to develop skills and experience in a low key club format. Unfortunately the summer weather has disappeared at the moment and there was a reasonable south easterly blowing keeping the temperatures down and making the riders work hard in some sections.  The dull conditions were probably a blessing however as the dogs were almost blinding the spectators with…

Cristal Titanium Brilliance in Nannup

The sun was certainly shining for round 3 of the Cristal Titanium Series in Nannup with the weather warming up to give us an early taste of summer.  There was no doubt there would be plenty of red faces by days end with a challenging ToMR circuit to contend with. A decision was made to neutralise the first climb out of Nannup much to Kim’s disgust but as Brendon pointed out, it was in the interest of the back of the bunch having a better day rather than getting dropped immediately and having a lonely ride.  Unfortunately the lead motorbike was not quite sure where the top of the climb ended and the riders continued on giving them an extended neutral warm up before they were eventually turned back to…

Vaughan Claims Golden Gnome

Good to see Vaughan Berge back riding strongly again today when he fronted for Uberquads 3 and took out the Cat 1 Golden Gnome.  Ryan Bailie may be the top ranked Australian Triathlete this season but his light weight frame put him at a disadvantage on the fast descent and sprint to the line at Lowden with Vaughan just getting over the top of him before the line.  Nicholas Lawler claimed third, Jaiden Lanigan fourth and Uberquads Dave Holland and Paul Kirby the minor placings. With only Nicholas and Ryan showing up for the SWCC All stars team they could not qualify in the placings in the TTT despite an impressive effort seeing them record fastest time just ahead of Vaughan’s squad.  Uberquads 1 recorded the third fastest time and…
