Impressive Manjimup

Manjimup seems to be gaining a new lease on life and riders in today’s Cristal Series Round 2 were certainly impressed. With the winter we have been experiencing and a somewhat doubtful forecast, most were sure it was going to be typically wet Manjimup weather today, but for the most part we were blessed with sunshine although it could have been a few degrees warmer!! The locals recommended Tall Timbers as a meeting spot and it certainly lived up to recommendations with the majority struggling to believe there was such a venue in Manjimup!! After a quick re visit of team lists and coloured caps, it seemed the field was similar to round one despite long weekend commitments for some. Paul Cogan was once again on lead vehicle duties and…

2016 Collie Donnybrook Race Report—Grant Eikelboom

I was feeling pretty happy with my form leading into Collie Donnybrook this year – I had a month off work watching the Tour and racking up plenty of km’s through July, and then a couple of easier weeks back at work leading into the race which I thought might make for a nicely timed taper. Sussing out the handicapping prior to the race, I found myself in the small 10min group, with Marten and Leon only 2min ahead in a very strong looking 12min group which also included Jamie, Soeren and Mick from Busselton. Right from the gun, it was clear that the majority of our 10min group (consisting of maybe 10 riders at most), were quite content to wait for the large 9min group to catch us and…

Bryce Lanigan – Race Report 2016 Collie Donnybrook

It was a great turn out for the running of the 91st Collie to Donnybrook and Return Cycling Classic handicap, with in excess of 200 riders making the trip to Collie to take part in this prestigious event. Being my first time competing in the 104km open event I went into the race without too many expectations, and was glad to see my handicap group off 5 minutes’ work really well right from the start. The pace was high and our early splits on the leading groups looked promising as we went through Mumballup heading towards Donnybrook where we soon had our sights set on the 7-minute group ahead of us. When the two groups came together it gave a much needed injection of extra numbers into our roll through.…

SWCC KOM 2 – A great day at Nannup

Great day out in Nannup today with Round 2 of the KoM Series. The 3km climb was not as steep as Pile Rd but certainly tested legs and lungs. Great riding by the Dogs team saw them hold their lead in the teams race with Kim Overington and Ian Hayward first in their age group categories. Team Prime also had a good day out with Steve Roberts climbing well to also claim first place in his age group. Soeren rode down from Busselton and put in another strong effort to keep his hold on a polka dot jersey. Marten is also keen not to be outdone by Tuart St compatriot and also retains the lead in his category. Fastest on the climb were of course the under 23 riders with…

KOM Race 1

Great start to the KoM series this morning with some excellent results across the board. Thanks to Deb Carver, starters Brian and Aleesha, timekeeper Suzanne and Robbie for setting up. Also huge thanks to our hosts Tim and Laura once again!! Lots of personal bests and great to have the Busso crew over, looks like they have a couple of age group leaders in Soeren and Jamie. Great ride by young Josh Commons and we wish the boys all the best tomorrow in the Peel Junior Tour. Full results by category and teams results will be available on website later in the week.

New course : Same result

Nicholas Lawler retained his tight grip on the Henk and Marg Stoffers trophy by sprinting to victory yet again this morning. The uphill finish to Ferguson Falls Winery was testing but he managed to overcome his younger Satalyst team mate, Bryce and take the win for a record third time. The slightly shorter circuit proved challenging enough for most and made it difficult for the handicap groups to get into a rhythm. The limit markers were always going to struggle to reign in the enthusiasm of the young guns with Harrison, Lowan and Josh putting the group under pressure each time they went to the front. Vern who is understandably still recovering from his recent 24 hour effort found the pace a bit hot as did the two Pauls. Working…
