Tour of MR 2016 – Grant

Anyone who says cycling is not a team sport has absolutely no idea. Three days of hard racing with these 5 guys (not only pretty handy bike riders but all quality individuals also) in the SWCC Racing Team is without a doubt the highlight of my time spent on a bike. Even though it was Nic who crossed the line first on the final stage of the race, the sense of satisfaction and achievement was equal to any win I have been part of in any other 'traditional' team sport such as footy or cricket. Huge thanks to my teammates, Robert Commons for his assistance, support and encouragement over the weekend, all of our team sponsors - Bindi Nutrition - Australian made natural sports nutrition, Full of Beanz Coffee, Sokhyte,…

Tour of MR 2016 – Marten

2016 Tour of Margaret River Stage 3 - Race Report (thanks to Marten) A common goal, a plan, mutual respect, individual skills, leadership, communication, decision-making under pressure, hard work, and sacrifice. The essential qualities of a good team, and a recipe for success. SWCC Racing executed the plan today and the satisfaction of being part of a spectacular win on the final stage of the Satalyst Tour of Margaret River, in front of all the supporters, families, and Tour personnel was immensely gratifying. Nick Lawler sealed the win with a perfectly timed sprint, beating former National Criterium Champion Anthony (AJ) Giacoppo as well as the rest of a very strong 2nd Division field. Here’s how it worked out … A glorious day greeted us, bright sun and a gentle SSE…

Race 3 SWCC Cristal Titanium Series

For the third race in the 2016 Cristal Series we were back on the Mowen Rd course out of Nannup. This undulating wide road is deceptively challenging and some still had memories of how hard the racing was two years ago!! SWCC Drillers 1 had gone all out with their recruitment to ensure they retained their grip on the Cat 1 series lead with Bernie Swart and Bryce Lanigan subbing in. The new recruits timed their entrance to perfection arriving on the line just as the group set off in the 30km road race. Both were soon involved in the main breakaway with young Bryce going on to claim victory from Uberquads Liam Magowan with consistent placegetter Nicholas Lawler in third place ahead of Bernie with Michael Midgley from Busselton…

2016 Collie Donnybrook Race Report—Grant Eikelboom

I was feeling pretty happy with my form leading into Collie Donnybrook this year – I had a month off work watching the Tour and racking up plenty of km’s through July, and then a couple of easier weeks back at work leading into the race which I thought might make for a nicely timed taper. Sussing out the handicapping prior to the race, I found myself in the small 10min group, with Marten and Leon only 2min ahead in a very strong looking 12min group which also included Jamie, Soeren and Mick from Busselton. Right from the gun, it was clear that the majority of our 10min group (consisting of maybe 10 riders at most), were quite content to wait for the large 9min group to catch us and…

Bryce Lanigan – Race Report 2016 Collie Donnybrook

It was a great turn out for the running of the 91st Collie to Donnybrook and Return Cycling Classic handicap, with in excess of 200 riders making the trip to Collie to take part in this prestigious event. Being my first time competing in the 104km open event I went into the race without too many expectations, and was glad to see my handicap group off 5 minutes’ work really well right from the start. The pace was high and our early splits on the leading groups looked promising as we went through Mumballup heading towards Donnybrook where we soon had our sights set on the 7-minute group ahead of us. When the two groups came together it gave a much needed injection of extra numbers into our roll through.…

SWCC KOM 2 – A great day at Nannup

Great day out in Nannup today with Round 2 of the KoM Series. The 3km climb was not as steep as Pile Rd but certainly tested legs and lungs. Great riding by the Dogs team saw them hold their lead in the teams race with Kim Overington and Ian Hayward first in their age group categories. Team Prime also had a good day out with Steve Roberts climbing well to also claim first place in his age group. Soeren rode down from Busselton and put in another strong effort to keep his hold on a polka dot jersey. Marten is also keen not to be outdone by Tuart St compatriot and also retains the lead in his category. Fastest on the climb were of course the under 23 riders with…
