2016 SWCC Club Champs
With around 30 riders across all categories on Sunday morning, there weren’t large fields for the SWCC Club Road Championships, but there was plenty of quality. The Open field was boosted by James Ball and Vaughan Berge from the Dome team driving down from Perth to race again on their favourite terrain and James Stephenson and Andrea representing team Arimia. SWCC Race Team poster boy Iain Ferry was joined by race team representatives Jaiden Lanigan and Nicholas Lawler and young Bryce Lanigan. The Dome boys were always going to find it difficult to shake the locals and found with each attack they were heavily marked by the likes of Nicholas and Jaiden. As a result the pace wasn’t on and the group got a bit of a wake up call…
Impressive Manjimup
Manjimup seems to be gaining a new lease on life and riders in today’s Cristal Series Round 2 were certainly impressed. With the winter we have been experiencing and a somewhat doubtful forecast, most were sure it was going to be typically wet Manjimup weather today, but for the most part we were blessed with sunshine although it could have been a few degrees warmer!! The locals recommended Tall Timbers as a meeting spot and it certainly lived up to recommendations with the majority struggling to believe there was such a venue in Manjimup!! Hot and windy for Dardanup TT
With a few people still on holidays there was a good turn out for the first midweek TT of 2016 but unfortunately the conditions were not exactly encouraging with the temperature still quite high and a gusty east south easterly wind that strengthened over the evening. Further impacting on times new rider Des Shearer took a wrong turn doing a few extra kilometres on the first lap while both Gary Hastie and Chris Howard took tumbles on the turn back onto Recreation Drive. It was good to see Gary get through the two laps without cramping however as it was certainly testing conditions and Chris Howard's time of including the fall and without tri bars was a great effort. Triathlete Anthony Marinovich was having his first go at the club…
