Tier One – Development Squad.
Athletes at this level will be competitive at a local club level.
They will show an aptitude for cycling and potential to progress to a higher level.  Included in this tier will be younger athletes (e.g. under 15s involved in BMX).
Selection will be based upon results of a sporting background and attitude questionnaire, results of physiological testing and observation of pedalling and bike handling technique by selection coaches.
Benefits of being in the development squad will include:

  • Squad training sessions
  • Opportunity to link with local coaches and SWCC mentor riders
  • Opportunity to attend Regional Academy of Sport cycling camp
  • Squad Jersey

Tier Two – State Squad Athletes (State Championship Competitors)

Athletes at this level will be competitive at a state level and able to finish in the top five in relevant state level races.
Selection will be based upon performance in pre-determined state and local races.  These will include Peel Junior Tour, Dardanup Open, Lowry Memorial, local time trials and hill climb races.  Selection coaches will observe athletes performances in these events and decide athlete’s appropriate tier level.
Benefits of being in the State Squad will include:

  • Squad training sessions
  • Appointment of individual coach and individualised training program
  • Regular performance testing
  • Attendance at Regional Academy of Sport Camp
  • Squad Jersey
  • Financial assistance to attend selection events and state titles

Tier Three – State Team Athletes
